Fiumara d’arte

An open-air museum between sea and mountains

A few kilometers separate Capo d’Orlando Marina from one of the most surprising cultural experiences in Sicily: the Fiumara d’Arte.
A path of 12 monumental works scattered along the bed of the ancient Tusa river and among the landscapes of the Nebrodi, where contemporary art meets nature and transforms it into language.

A visionary project

The Fiumara d’Arte was born at the end of the eighties from the intuition of the patron Antonio Presti, who transformed an abandoned valley into a widespread museum.
The works, created by Italian and international artists, dialogue with the territory without ever imposing themselves on it: symbolic architecture, sculptures and installations that blend with the light and silence of the landscape.

The works along the river

The route winds for over thirty kilometers, from Castel di Tusa to the slopes of the Nebrodi.
Among the most famous works:

  • La Finestra sul Mare (about 63 km from the port), by Tano Festa, a large blue portal that frames the horizon;
  • Pyramid 38° Parallelo (about 70 km away), by Mauro Staccioli, oriented along the parallel that ideally connects the Mediterranean to the world;
  • Energia Mediterranea (about 70 km away), by Antonio Di Palma, a steel structure that evokes the motion of currents;
  • Ariadne’s Labyrinth (about 91 km away), by Italo Lanfredini, a walkable sculpture that invites you to get lost in order to find yourself;
  • A curve thrown behind time (about 88 km), by Paolo Schiavocampo, a monument to memory and passage.

Each work can be reached by car, motorbike or bicycle, following panoramic itineraries that combine the sea with the rural landscape of the hinterland.

Art, landscape, identity

The strength of the Fiumara d’Arte lies in its ability to restore value to marginal places, uniting community and landscape in a unique story.
More than a museum to visit, it is an experience to go through: an open dialogue between art, time and territory, where Sicily shows its most contemporary dimension. For those who land in Capo d’Orlando Marina, the Fiumara d’Arte is an ideal stop to reach by land: a short journey that offers a different look at Sicily.
