Taormina

History, sea and views of the Ionian Sea

Less than two hours’ drive from Capo d’Orlando Marina, Taormina is a balcony suspended over the Ionian Sea. Ancient, elegant and perfectly preserved, it is one of the most iconic destinations in Sicily, a meeting point between culture, landscape and sea life.

The route to the east

Sailing along the east coast, after Mount Etna on the horizon, the profile of Taormina appears between Capo Sant’Alessio and the bay of Mazzarò.
Those traveling by boat or charter will find several safe mooring points, including the port of Giardini Naxos, a convenient base for visiting the city or continuing to Catania and Syracuse.
Navigation is quiet and scenic, with clear waters and sandy bottoms that invite you to stop.

A landing place of culture and landscape

Taormina is a place where history overlooks the sea. The Ancient Theater, built in Greek times and enlarged by the Romans, offers a unique view of Mount Etna and the bay below.
Among the narrow streets of the center there are medieval palaces, panoramic terraces and public gardens that tell the story of a refined Sicily.
Do not miss the Villa Comunale, Piazza IX Aprile and the stairways that descend to the sea, towards Isola Bella.

Between sea, leisure and tradition

Those who choose to stay in Taormina will find a city capable of combining high-level hospitality and Sicilian authenticity. Restaurants, small hotels and shops coexist with cultural spaces and international festivals, in a context that is always well-kept and welcoming.
It is a perfect destination for a stop of one or two days, before resuming the route south or returning to Capo d’Orlando.
